    1840: Living in Jackson County, IL. From research thus far and neighbors listed, I believe he was living about 6 miles south of Murphysboro in Ridge Township (now Pomona Twp). Found papers talking about building a school for Mud Creek Settlement. Not positive where this was, but Mud Creek runs basically North and South between M'boro and Carbondale.

    She had a family bible from David Bell and Mary Read.
    Robert Read, son of above George & Anne Read was born 19 Feb. 1730, prop. on Barbadoes. He married Esther Whitehouse (Whitehurst), daughter of Samuel Whitehouse and Sarah Nelson Whitehouse, dau of John Nelson, Sr. on 27th of October 1757 (from bible records) Cart. Co., N.C. "Robert Read, Sheriff of Carteret Co. Claim of 10 pounds allowed as Sheriff for year 1761": from N.C. Colonial & State Records, Vl. 6, page 739. Notation on flyleaf of Carteret County Deed Book H says Robert Read transcribed deeds in Book H. He signed deeds as Clerk of Court 1773-1776. Robert and Esther Read had eleven children: 1. George Read who married Abigail Wallace, 2. William Read mar. Susannah Smith & had issue James, Elijah, Kiturah, Holland & Sally, 3. Samuel Read who was in War of 1812, 4. To son Daniel one blaze faced mare, one cow and calf and he to have the plantation at the death of his mother. I give to son George, the lands I bought of John Fulford.     Whereas Daniel Lynard, lately decd, left three children at his death vis: Mary Blandiana, and Elizabeth, and Mary is since dead, and by desire of the said Lynard's wife, who survived her husband, the court appointed that John Shackleford Sr. should take Blandiana and Edward Shepard should take Elizabeth. This court hath ordered that the girl Blandina be and is bound unto the said John Shackleford according to act of assebly, and that Elizabeth be and is bound unto the said Edward Shepard and that the said Shackleford and Shepard take the estate of the said Lynard into their hands and sell the same at Public Venue and pay such lawful debts and charges as is due from said estate and make return of the account of all this proceedings to the next court. The aforesaid Shackleford and Shepard to give security in the sum of ten pounds proclamation money.
