  • Notes
    • Bobbie Jean Armstrong , 85, was born to the late Clarence Armstrong and the late Maudine Gass on October 1, 1928, in Willisville, Illinois and passed away on May 30, 2014. She has two brothers, the late Richard Armstrong and her younger brother, Larry Armstrong of Florida. Bobbie graduated from Pinckneyville High School. In the spring of 1947, Bobbie met Ralph Clinton on a blind date, and, giving up her college scholarship, they were married in December that same year. They were married for nearly 29 years until Ralph's sudden death in 1976 at age 51. Bobbie and Ralph had seven children together (six surviving). When her youngest child started pre-school, Bobbie went back to college, entering Central State University, Edmond, OK as a freshman at the same time as her oldest daughter Carol. Bobbie received a B.A. and M.A. in English at Central State, and also attended the University of Oklahoma Ph.D. program in English.

After Ralph's passing, Bobbie married Dr. Nolen Armstrong in 1978. They were married for 21 years until Nolen's death in 1999. Subsequently, she resided in Norman and most recently shared a home with her daughter Cathy Barnum and her husband Tom.

Bobbie was a very intelligent and strong woman who had an amazing ability to embrace new challenges. Throughout her life, Bobbie owned an antiques shop, "Antiques and Alternatives", and a clothing consignment shop, "Bobbie's Boutique", obtained her real estate broker's license, attended law school at the University of Oklahoma for one year, sold BeautiControl cosmetics, and took flying lessons. She was an avid reader and book collector and she often read 2-3 books at a time, per week. She played the piano beautifully, and she enjoyed interior decorating, music, world travel, playing cards and Scrabble, and going to movies. She had a great sense of style and a passion for shopping. She was diagnosed with and survived breast cancer in 1998. Most of all, she loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Her family will always remember her for her unconditional love and support. She truly enjoyed a full and active life.

Bobbie is survived by her six children Gary Clinton and girlfriend Christina Greenaway of Norman, OK, Carol Smith of Choctaw, OK, Robert Clinton and wife Tammy Clinton of Norman, OK, Cathy Barnum and husband Tom Barnum of Norman, OK, John Clinton and wife Anne Clinton of Norman, OK; and Julie Quinn and husband Rollie Quinn of Leesburg, VA.; grandchildren Solon Clinton and wife Nathalie Rocher, Andrew Clinton, Matthew Clinton and wife Rebecca Bean, Daniel Clinton, Samantha Bunyard and husband Alan Bunyard, Brian Clinton, Jordan Spor, Jaron Spor, Cate Dabney, Will Dabney, Coree Clinton, Levi Clinton, Emma Clinton, Casey Quinn and Jack Quinn; three surviving great-grandchildren: Milan Clinton, Maelis Clinton, and Dexter Bunyard. She is also survived by her brother Larry Armstrong and wife Pamela Armstrong of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; Harold and Janet Clinton of Belleville, IL; and Ruth Kunstman of Aiken, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
Bobbie is also survived by her loving caregivers, Emma Gomez, Anna Dominguez, Patty Mendez, and Kathryn Marvin, in whose precious care at home she spent her final months, and by her special young friend, Adrian, whose loving affection and attention brought her much joy. The family is forever grateful to have found you and entrusted our Mother's care to you.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Ralph and Nolen; her brother Richard; a son, Brian; her son-in-law, Wilburn L. Smith; and her dog Snickers.
