    • (Research):Funeral Sunday for Alfred Loy
      Funeral Services for Alfred Loy, 82, retired Murphysboro grocer, fireman, and alderman, will be held at 2pm Sunday at Meyer-Denny funeral home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery. Loy died at 6am Wednesday at his home in the Harrison community north of Murphysboro. He had been ill for several months. He formerly operated grocery stores on North Ninth streets in Murphysboro. He operated the former Gem theater and sponsored the construction of the Hippodrome theater. He was a member of the Murphysboro fire department when the fire wagons were drawn by horses. Loy was born in Ava on January 1, 1870, and moved to Murphysboro when he was only a year old. He married the former Amy Burton in Murphysboro on April 1, 1891, she died in 1929. He leaves: four sons, Elmer A., M'boro, Charles E., M'boro, George H., East St. Louis, and Walter A., Detroit, MI., a daughter Mrs. Augusta McManus, M'boro, and two granddaughters whom he reared, Mrs., Jennie Holt and Mrs., Evelyn Brantley, both of M'boro. Two daughters and three sons preceeded him in death.
