Karl worked as a carpenter, his family lived on S. Delaware Street, just north of Merrill Street.

Carl married Engel Phillipina Christine Röver 7 Apr 1855, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN. Engel (daughter of Carl Fried. «u»Wilhelm«-u» Röver and Caroline Eleanore Hof) was born 19 Sep 1833, Meinsen, Schaumburg-Lippe; was christened 29 Sep 1833, Evangelical Church, Meinsen, Shaumburg-Lippe; died 18 Mar 1902, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN; was buried , Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, IN.
