George Read, son of George Read and Martha Legouch, was baptized
on December 17th, 1693 in St. Phillips Parish, Barbados. He
married Ann Scott, daughter of Robert Scott and Ann Hunt, on August 31st,
1714 in St. Michaels Parish, Barbados. Ann was baptized on 14 August
1694 in St. Michaels Parish, Barbados. The couple remained in Barbados
for at least 5 years and disappear from the scene until they appear in
Carteret County, North Carolina in 1742. George then appears several
times as attorney for several individuals. He also owned several
hundred acres of land in Carteret county as well as the land he still owned
in Barbados. During the Spanish Attack in 1747 he served as Clerk
of the Regiment led by Col. Thomas Lovick. He later served as the
County Clerk for Carteret County. George's Will was written and signed
on May 26th, 1753 and was proven in September Court 1755. George
Read and Ann Scott's known children were:
