"Carl was always a steady and reliable boy. I don't think he ever caused any worry. At age 14 he had an attack of swelling and pain in his knees which was painful and long lasting. Help was very necessary for the production of war material at that time, so Carl got work at a very early age. Later he became a machinist. (He was) ...a big help to our mother financially"

He was married to Dorothy Marie Bruhns on Aug 25 1933 in Seattle, WA.Dorothy Marie Bruhns was born on Sep 26 1907 in Indianapolis, Marion County, IN. She died on Feb 10 1998 in Seattle, King County, WA. Carl Wilbur Rafert and Dorothy Marie Bruhns had the following children:
